Reset your proxy credentials

Your proxy username and password let anyone who has them send traffic through your ScrapingAnt proxies, and that traffic counts against your plan. Treat the password like any other secret.

Supply-chain attacks and breaches of third-party services have become common lately. If your proxy credentials were stored in a tool, CI system, hosting platform, browser extension, or SaaS integration that reported a security incident, reset them now rather than wait to see whether they get abused.

When to reset your proxy password

Reset it if any of these apply:

  • A service, CI system, or dependency that had your proxy credentials reports a compromise.
  • The credentials were committed to a Git repository, pasted into a public issue or chat, or appeared in logs or screenshots.
  • A teammate or contractor who knew them no longer works with you.
  • Your traffic usage shows activity you don't recognise.

How to reset your proxy password

  1. Sign in and open your Profile page.
  2. Find the Proxy credentials section. It lists Residential proxies and Datacenter proxies for each proxy plan you have.
  3. Click Reset next to the proxy type you want to reset.
  4. Confirm with Reset in the dialog.
  5. Copy the new Password shown in the same section.

Residential and datacenter credentials are reset separately. If you have both plans and both may be exposed, reset each one.

What changes after a reset:

  • Only the password changes. Your proxy username stays the same, so the customer-USERNAME-... parameters in your username keep working.
  • All active proxy sessions are terminated, including sticky sessionid sessions.
  • For datacenter proxies, the new password can take up to 15 minutes to take effect.

Update everything that uses the old password

Put the new password everywhere the old one was used, for example:

If you also use the Web Scraping API, its proxy mode authenticates with your API key, not these credentials. To rotate that key, see Reset your API key.

Keep your proxy credentials safe

  • Store them in environment variables or a secrets manager, not in source code.
  • Never commit them to a repository. If they were ever committed, reset the password: removing the commit does not remove it from forks, clones, or caches.
  • Share them only with services you trust, and reset the password when you stop using one.
